ABSTRACT

Jaqueline spent the first nine months of 1937 studying town planning and land settlement at the Technische Hochschule in Berlin (THBerlin). At THBerlin, Jaqueline would have been introduced to the Nazi government's relatively new program of national and regional planning and development. By the time Jaqueline arrived at THBerlin, increasing militarism was leading the Third Reich to de-emphasize its domestic policy of urban decentralization. Moreover, in stark contrast to the teamwork Rowse encouraged at AA, students at School of Planning and Research for National Development (SPRND) were pretty much left to their own devices. Jaqueline had established an informal connection to the Industries Group from its inception, via her friendship with Roskill and her work for the League of Industry. Jaqueline was involved as members stayed in constant touch with Sir Barlow and kept him apprised of their work. The Industries Group report, "Location of Industry in Great Britain", published in March 1939.
