ABSTRACT
Hinnom', 1 or 'Gehenna'2 which started just to the west of the Pool of Mamilla, 3 and went in the shape of a 'Z' to join the Valley of Jehoshaphat. So the city was surrounded by valleys on three sides. Beyond the northern wall of the city was flatter country, and where necessary the wall was separated from the surrounding hills by a dry moat.
