ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on two different case studies that have different types of participants. First, it analyzes the operations from a unique functional perspective, within the operations for a lithium-potash mine located in northwest Argentina. Its nearness to Chile's infrastructure and its remoteness in the Andes make it a leading case for all those projects facing comparable conditions. Second, it describes a multiregional land-bridge logistic project that turned out to be very successful during its planning and implementation phases, despite having faced serious cultural challenges. Cross-cultural issues had to be identified first and worked out later, and had a clear impact on the operations. This case study proposes an innovative way to handle cultural conflictive projects, in an attempt to demonstrate its early importance in the project development of a project with a multicultural profile. The case studies described involves projects with people from multiple cultures who have worked and been trained in cultures outside of their origins.
