This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores the role that the cultural sector can play in working with and supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) people. The equality laws covering rights for LGBT people, backed by the EU, have been a wake up call for some managing bodies since 2000, while the business case' for attracting an LGBT audience or customers has influenced others. The cultural heritage sector more widely has also just begun to recognise the need to reflect LGBT histories in their activities and properties. As the world faces struggles for resources, there is a real danger that this could herald a new period of hatred and oppression of minorities, including LGBT people. The book aims to make visible the needs and demands of LGBT people, and to demonstrate the good practice that parts of the cultural sector have developed.
