ABSTRACT

In order to assess the potential value of any type of intellectual property (IP) the consideration should be the customer for its use. This will define the market for the product which will be made from patent protected. The method of constructing a model of a market is known as segmentation analysis. The factors in deciding which segments are suitable for a product and how it can satisfy defined needs play against one another in describing a market opportunity. The definition of the market needs to use the standards which have been accepted and adopted all over the world and these definitions are managed by the World Health Organization (WHO) through to the International Classification of Diseases Version 10 (ICD 10) and Surgical Nomenclature of Medical Procedures (SNOMED). In emerging markets many healthcare segments are in high growth as the economies of the countries evolve and the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita of the country's population permits health expenditure.
