ABSTRACT

The project manager plays a pivotal role, at the hub of all the activities and with a great deal of responsibility for ensuring that all project tasks are performed when they should be performed, within budget and of acceptable quality. But the project manager cannot work unless given the appropriate organizational and financial conditions. For those conditions to be satisfied, this chapter looks at role of senior management in projects. Senior management is ultimately responsible for engaging, paying and training the permanent staff of the enterprise. The chapter also discusses the role of stakeholders, financial institutions, and design engineers. Many projects are carried out internally where the project owner or customer is, in effect, the company itself. The main purpose of the project should be to satisfy the customer's project specification and contracted requirements, which brings back to mind the three primary project objectives of time, cost and specification.
