ABSTRACT
Numbers are among the most common handwritten marks in the music books. Sometimes they appear to be old shelfmarks or similar cataloguing indications, or binding instructions. Some, usually in discreet pencil, may well be coded sale prices. But very often their meaning is not apparent. In this chapter I will deal with just two types of inscription involving numbers – prices and pagination.
