ABSTRACT

Marx's approach to Oriental societies was shaped by his formulation of historical stages into modes of production and a framework of social forms that corresponded to each of these stages. Marx sets out to demonstrate his idea that different production forces opened the way to different modes of production and thus different social forms. The framework of the basic distinctions and analyses, which concerned irrigation and the character of land ownership, can be found at the base of Marx's approach to Oriental societies. Marx was of the opinion that the historical process was a kinesthetic occurrence and that at the basis of the development of production was a need for a constant development of new stages in society. According to Marx, in the developmental process of the forces of production, the individual enters a relationship with other individuals and establishes cooperation within the arrangement of the division of labor.
