ABSTRACT

Social scientists are trained in expressing their results, analytical reasoning and thoughts

in general in the graphical format of text. They write a lot – often with a tenacious

feeling that they shouldwrite evenmore.Although the value ofwriting is indisputable,

drawing is also helpful in the process of theorizing in social science, doing research and

reporting research. By drawing, we mean using graphical formats other than text to

visualize phenomena and represent, more or less systematically, preliminary theory or

parts of a theory. Drawing can of course be done by hand as well as by computer.
