ABSTRACT
You now have an idea of what a display is and how various graphical parts can be put
together to build a display. In this chapter, we will give examples of how to use
displays when your aim is to theorize. The illustrations might help you to get started
playing about with your own displays to make your thoughts clearer. There is often a
gap between tentative thoughts and ideas, on the one hand, and written theoretical
claims and explanations on the other. Displays are tools to drag sometimes lurking
ideas and thoughts into the open daylight in order to be scrutinized and refined
(cf. Kaplan 1964: 268-9).
