In the Eastern part of its neighbourhood, the EU has been particularly active in launching three ESDP operations. Chronologically, the first operation, the Rule of Law Mission EUJUST THEMIS took place in Georgia between July 2004 and July 2005. The second, still ongoing operation, the Border Assistance Mission at Moldovan/Ukrainian Border EUBAM, was launched in Moldova in October 2005. The third operation, the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM Georgia) was decided on 15 September 2008 in the aftermath of the crisis of August 2008.
