ABSTRACT
The Zurich office of Google is one of Europe's most unconventional and imaginative workplaces. Google's Director of Global Real Estate, Chris Coleman, says the company has developed some key principles in making Googlers productive. What Google has achieved in Zurich is a way to allow its employees to rest and recuperate during the working day that is true to the culture and style of a fast-moving organisation. How the contemplation setting is creatively interpreted in a workplace design scheme is up for grabs. Leading European fashion brand Mexx International worked with designer Sevil Peach of Sevil Peach Gence Associates to create distinctive contemplation space on the third floor of its Amsterdam design centre. Many contemplation settings take their visual cues from domestic space. Fashion pioneer Wayne Hemingway founded the acclaimed Red or Dead clothing label with his wife Gerardine before focusing on affordable and social design, including housing, as the head of Hemingway Design.
