ABSTRACT

All risk stems from people. Machines can go wrong, due to faulty programming or poor maintenance, but these problems are usually predictable. Humans, by contrast, have an infinite capacity for failure. They make mistakes and do foolish things. They forget to do tasks. They sulk and plot. From alcohol addiction to disengagement, and from bullying to a skills shortage, there is never any shortage of problems for the HR department and the chief risk officer to worry about. Left unattended, HR risks turn into client defection, sabotage or law suits.
