ABSTRACT

Having made the case for adopting a coaching mindset to managing complex projects, this chapter introduces the concept of team coaching and how, as a PM, you could adjust to an alternative style of working. So what is team coaching? The role of the team coach is relatively new in the context of business but is well established in the field of sport. We are familiar with the idea of an experienced coach who works with a sports team, both as individuals and as a collective entity, to achieve their ultimate objective. The team coach in a work setting can be seen to have a number of similarities, as well as some critical differences.
