ABSTRACT

Every project sits within a particular set of circumstances that could be described as the systemic environment. Some of these circumstances create the momentum for the project to move forward, whilst others will try to constrain it. These forces arise from a range of different factors, some of which are macroeconomic and others which are more local or systemic. Understanding these forces will help you assess how much preparation you need to do with the stakeholders before the project begins. Your first task as project coach should be to work with whatever members of your future team are available to understand the external factors that will have an impact on your ability to complete the project successfully.
