ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the perspective of the tourists, by reconstructing and analysing their experience of the Bond pilgrimage. For the James Bond fans, the symbolic difference between the normal world and the world of Bond is first and foremost a difference that needs to be traced and analysed meticulously, in an almost technological way. The older Bond films are especially admired, since they were made at a time when producers did not have access to advanced technology and were dependent on existing locations. Making a comparison between the Bond world and the real world and determining the underlying production process are not the only motivating factors for the Bond fans: many want not only to see and photograph the door from Die Another Day, but also to open it and enter the world that lies behind it. The Bond locations occupy a special position in this difficult balancing act.
