ABSTRACT

In the brief, the librarian describes for the architect the range of departments, rooms, areas and spaces that are required in the library building, and their preferred relationships. These relationships may also be shown diagrammatically as part of the brief. For a multi-storeyed library, the librarian may (in some circumstances) also indicate those parts of the library which it is preferred should be located on the various floors or levels of the building. The right spatial relationships will ensure that the time and convenience of users and staff is not imposed upon and that the library can be used and operated economically, efficiently and effectively.
