ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores a number of themes that apply to the management of projects in non-traditional areas. It contributes to a wider debate on how we seek the next stage of improvement in project delivery. The book proposes that people would make significant improvements through applying a project management framework, but then went further. It also proposes that people must change the focus of the framework in business-as-usual (BAU) organizations and concentrate much more on the development of an embedded skill. The book explains that their project management profession has some responsibility for the loss of enthusiasm for project management. It discusses that the portfolio management approach will complement existing disciplines of project and/or programme management and allows people to optimize project investments against strategic goals.
