ABSTRACT

Anyone who has been involved in project management will be very familiar with the need to plan before doing the work. An approach that is frequently applied to the management of projects, that includes the four required features of closed loop control system, is the PlanDoCheckAct cycle. In the same way that an Owner Organization (OO) will hold regular Project Evaluation Reviews, the Supplier Organization (SO) will hold regular Contract Evaluation Reviews. In both instances Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will be used to exert control over the endeavour by comparing actual performance against that anticipated within the baselines of the Project Management Professional (PMP). The recent evolution of Agile' techniques provides an interesting perspective on the application of the PlanDoCheckAct cycle to the control of a project's product. Within an Owner Organization (OO), the project manager (PM) and the team are responsible only for the delivery of the product and will be disbanded at the point of handover.
