ABSTRACT

Construction project organization is a particularly complex subject, not least because of the way in which the organization depends on the size of the project and the nature of the contract. One peculiarity is that the organization does not stay put in one place, but changes fairly early on in the project so that the main action moves from the home office to a site that might be many miles away. So our organizations range from cases where there is no obvious project organization at all to large projects where there are both large home office and site organizations. A summary chart can be given to all the key managers in the project organization, to external agencies and subcontractors, perhaps to the media, and not least to the client. In a small project, employing only a handful of people, the project manager can manage all the people directly with no formal organization structure.
