ABSTRACT

The chapter starts by describing some of the stress factors on reviewers. One of the key ways to do this is to build a team that projects professionalism and is confident of its skills. Review teams need to build support structures that help them manage this stress. Of course, organizations also have an incentive to build such structures, not least because reviewers' performance will degrade if they don't cope with the stress. Many of the stress factors arise from the complex relationship between reviewers, project teams and other stakeholders. If reviewers are confident of their skills and able to project professionalism, they will be better placed to manage these relationships and hence avoid the stresses. The case studyReview Techniques in the Education Sectorillustrates such an approach to developing review teams. The chapter closes by looking briefly at some of the skills that reviewers need, and at options for building these skills.
