ABSTRACT

A gateway is an independent review by an experienced team, conducted at a key decision point in a project or programme. It is intended to provide assurance to the Senior Responsible owner (SRO) that it is fit to proceed to the next stage. The overall aim is to allocate reviewing resources in proportion to the risk reduction that might be obtained from the review. Investment Decision is conducted prior to making major contractual and investment commitments. It confirms that procurement and supplier selection have undergone an appropriate process, and that the client and supplier together can implement the proposed solution and hence deliver the anticipated benefits. Finally, the central gateway team captures any examples of good practice or lessons learned that the review team identifies. OGC Gateways cover a wide range of projects and circumstances, so they can be expected to encounter a variety of challenges.
