Introduction

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines project management research studies so that key factors that affect perceived project success and failure are identified. The Project Management Institute Standards Committee defines a project as a temporary endeavour undertaken to create a unique product or service. Project management is often viewed as the application of knowledge, competencies, methods and tools to achieve the defined project tasks in order to satisfy stakeholder requirements and expectations from a project. It has been practised for thousands of years dating back to the Egyptian epoch. Moreover, many of today's project management software have an internet connectivity feature. The Planning and Scheduling (PPS) technique was developed into the Critical Path Method (CPM) that became very popular with the construction industry.
