ABSTRACT

A number of times during my career, well-meaning colleagues have taken me aside because they thought that I was causing unnecessary ‘waves’ in areas of the organisation in which they were involved, to point out to me that ‘it’s just a job’ and ‘just a game’. After all, it was but a means to personal material and self-worth ends, rather than having any signifi cant or long-term meaning or relevance which required refl ecting upon core personal values and principles.
