ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 asks what sin and salvation might be in situations of domestic violence.

It questions whether relational models of salvation are appropriate for women who experience domestic violence. For women who experience domestic violence, their own survival might be understood as a form of salvation. The chapter proposes an alternative model of Christian marriage, which neither assumes nor justifies any use of violence within the relationship, arguing that only when bodily survival is enabled can marriage be understood as a place of salvation.
