ABSTRACT

This chapter first discusses the selection and the measurement of women's reproductive health indicators. This section includes chronology of the measurement of reproductive health and measurement of women's reproductive health in this study. Then it focuses on the measurement of exogenous factors: gender equality, women's human rights, maternal and child care, economic development, and political development. Descriptions of data sources are provided in the third section. Since the 1994 United Nations International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the Fourth World Women's Conference (1995), progress has been made in terms of the data availability of reproductive health at the national and international levels. Between 1993 and 1996, the World Health Organization (WHO), together with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) proposed an aggregated list of 150 reproductive health indicators. The chapter explores study, the women's reproductive health indicators are expressed in rates, ratios, and proportions.
