ABSTRACT

This chapter presents set of ways in which global warming impacts civil aviation management. It is designed as the initial step to supporting environmental and operational sustainability efforts for civil aviation business organizations in view of the costs and benefits of global warming. With the Kyoto Protocol now in force, imposing limits on global warming pollution in many industrialized countries the European Union operating under a carbon cap-and-trade system and many US states, including California and the Northeast statessmart US companies are taking notice and taking action. Airlines and airport operators must now have expertise in Environmental Management. Like the current global financial crisis, global warming has the potential to create various threats and opportunities for business organizations. Corporate social responsibility-based practices should demonstrate the company stakeholders' sensitivity regarding global warming issues. Enterprise Risk Management presents an effective way to minimize the costs and maximize the benefits of global warming since it affects global warming-related corporate strategies and organizational integration.
