ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews both leading Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) guidelines and Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) literature in the development process of the Human Factor Risk Management model. The term 'human factors' has grown increasingly popular as the commercial aviation industry has realized that human error, rather than mechanical failure, underlies most aviation accidents and incidents. The human element is both a critical aspect of aviation safety and airline management in view of an airline's financial and operational performance. The chapter explains Strategic Human Resource Management in the airline industry and key drivers of the Human Factor Risk Management model. A visual model is used for developing the Human Factor Risk Management model which contains a full-set of risk shaping/influencing factors (RSF/RIF) and a scoring formula. The proposed full-set RSF/RIF taxonomy and score formula is used in our Human Factor Risk Management model.
