ABSTRACT

From autumn 1919, the international situation began to change for the newly established republic. The defining factor during this period was the defeat of Russian White Guard forces. The defeat of General Nikolai Yudenich and Admiral Alexander Kolchak, along with the hopeless struggle of Anton Denikin, had finally quashed the ideal of a “united and indivisible Russia.” This circumstance was welcomed within the Entente’s political circles that saw the establishment of a unified Russia under the Bolsheviks as a serious threat to Europe.
