ABSTRACT

When we started thinking about what a book on rural social work might be about, the first question was: is there such a thing? Is there any real difference between the underpinning ideas and values, theoretical perspectives and/or practice of social workers doing their work in rural and remote contexts and those working in more urban landscapes? Is social work just social work wherever it is done? Why would we even think about writing a book on rural social work? There are surely some assumptions we are carrying to frame our project in this way.
