ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book creates a balance in which the limitations encountered in tracking Marlowe's influence are offset by the queries and reflections that each study begets. In consequence, people have been able to account for a Marlovian influence in promoting Shakespeare's intoxication with words and his discovery of new ways to order them. The book explains how Marlowe acted as a catalyst in Shakespeare's disregard of standard expectations in a given genre. Part of Shakespeare's fascination with reworking the conventions of genre must have come from experiencing the variety of genres Marlowe selected as well as his many innovations within those genres. Shakespeare is not only more deeply emotional than Marlowe but is also more accepting and trusting of emotions. The pluralistic attitudes of Shakespeare toward Marlowe are far too wide-ranging, variable, and subtle.
