ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the root causes and possible sociological solutions to social problems. It examines the political and economic institutions of society for the sources of unemployment. The chapter explains many ethical and philosophical problems related to this line of thinking to be able to address the genetic manipulation effectively. It describes the economic function of human differences. This chapter demonstrates how many of the social problems typically listed by students and social problems texts alike, can be traced to a similar root cause if not entirely, at least in part. Most critical sociologists do not accept the notion that social problems have to be publicly recognized as such in order to be considered social problems. A constructionist approach presumes a public awareness of a problem, which implies someone with a claim goes through a process of making others see reality in the same manner as the claim-maker.
