ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key points discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book examines some of the key ideas in sociology and explores how these help one to better understand and interpret the world. Shifts in economic, geographical, environmental and governmental contexts affect social, cultural and political contexts. The book argues that it is important that social workers engage with their changing world, however at the same time, social work cannot be distracted into unthinkingly adopting discourses associated with the contemporary world. The common thread that joins up what can seem like endless sociological theories has been an interest in the ways in which individuals, groups and communities come together. Whereas the vision of a sociological social work can be seen as too invested in theory, it have argued that the contents of the kaleidoscope must be held together by the presence of the commitment to social justice.
