ABSTRACT

The supply chain visibility scorecard is a novel framework for evaluating the effectiveness of supply chain visibility. It's research and the theory it has generated has some significant deficits that are acute pressure points on practitioners trying to build visibility solutions. The first weakness is in the ambiguity and variety of definitions of supply chain visibility. The second weakness of measuring supply chain visibility in terms of total business performance is the accounting of time-lag between visibility initiatives and business outcomes. Supply chain visibility focusing attention on the practical aspects of visibility, such as how it can be measured and improved. There is a need for clear theoretical guidance of what are the prerequisites for successful supply chain visibility. It is not yet clear how supply chain visibility should be measured, in terms of impacts on the overall business. It also probably should not cover detailed warehouse operations, such as a system-directed put-away of materials.
