ABSTRACT

This chapter examines various aspects of the business case for adopting the talent management strategy approach. A talent management strategy is a corporate strategy. External and internal changes have to be accommodated in real time, as do major events such as product launches, the implementation of new computer systems or acquisition integration. Much of corporate life is devoted to meeting daily challenges - the need to close a key deal, meet a delivery deadline or achieve a production target. Talent management is a strategic issue and so warrants board attention. As such it requires sponsorship at board level plus continuing support from the HR function. There is no doubt that the ability to draw upon a pool of high achievers is a significant organizational advantage. A deliberate and strategic objective of recruiting, developing and retaining a pool of really talented individuals is an investment that will pay handsome dividends.
