ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines various strategies which companies can use to hire global talent successfully. It demonstrates that the effective selection of talent from a multitude of applicants cannot be haphazard; rather, it is a product of a combination of systematic and structured selection methods, tools and skills. The chapter shows that factors such as information technology, diversity and inclusion, and a global orientation are critical to the successful attraction, recruitment and selection of talent. The purpose of workforce planning is to hire, utilize, motivate, develop and retain the right number and quality of people at the right time for the right functions in the appropriate organizational units so that an organization does not have either a shortage or an excess of talent required for optimal performance. The workforce planner is under pressure to reconcile the forecast for talent requirements fairly accurately with the destabilizing uncertainties that constantly lash out at business operations.
