ABSTRACT
After penetrating several days' journey into the interior, I was obliged to return to the port of Los Reyes, in compliance with orders sent me by the governor. An~ because I found him and all his people sick on my arrival, I had no opportunity of reporting my discovery, nor communicating all the information I had collected from the natives. A few days afterwards he was compelled to return to Ascension to save the lives of his people, and having again fallen sick a few days after his arrival in that city, he was arrested by the officers of His Majesty (as everybody knows), so that I was unable to make my statement.
