ABSTRACT

It has been more than a hundred years since the airplane was invented, yet in the entire history of humanity, a hundred years is just a blink of an eye. Despite this, the progress of the last hundred years could be considered as a great accomplishment. At the beginning of the Air Age, the first flight of the Wright Brothers in 1903 was only 36.5 meters long; though a really small step for them, it was a huge one for mankind. And, in 1969, there came the jumbo jet Boeing 747. The wing span of this giant airliner is 59.6 meters. The distance of the first flight of the Wright Brothers was shorter than the span of a B747’s wing! It took only 66 years to make the first huge step of mankind – the Wright Brothers’ flight – to seem really small, as the distance of their flight couldn’t even traverse the wingspan of a Boeing 747!
