ABSTRACT
The Memoria Istruttiva did not detail Donati’s journey and there are no existing maps. Donati’s journey of exploration in Egypt is described in this chapter, which includes a reconstruction of his route on a map (Figure 3.2). This reconstruction is based on the same sources outlined in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 also includes a description of the unforeseen events that prevented Donati from beginning his journey immediately after landing in Alexandria, extraordinary events that changed the nature of the entire expedition.
