ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to identify some of the statuettes in the Turin Egyptian Museum and thereby enable their attribution to Donati’s collection. Donati collected 152 statuettes (Table 8.1), the largest group of objects of material culture in his collection. The identification required the collation of information from three sources. Donati’s list was the starting point, from which the best-described statuettes were selected. These objects were then to be found on display or sought in the Turin Egyptian Museum storerooms. When found, the catalogue classification numbers on the statuettes were compared with the written evidence.
