ABSTRACT

Constantinos Doxiadis' dissertation promoted a theoretical scheme that correlated vision to architecture, and this was achieved with a focus on ancient Greek architecture. Dimitris Pikionis was one of the most important Greek architects of the twentieth century and referring to his thought and work is tantamount to referring to the legendary. According to Pikionis, Doxiadis' theory is based on the observation of aesthetic phenomena and leads to their fundamental principles, reconciling the mathematical harmony of space with aesthetic observation. For Pikionis, architecture is "the music of spaces and abstract masses that express a physical or spiritual act". In the well-known text by Pikionis entitled "Sentimental Topography", which was published in the first issue of the magazine, exactly such a relationship between world, light and eyes is described: "Light created the world". Pikionis reminds us of Choisy's Histoire and specifically his analysis of the optical symmetry of the Propylaea.
