ABSTRACT

There is a considerable quantity of literature on the subject of environmental impacts from renewable energy, dating from the 1970s to the present time.

The author has reviewed a selection of the literature on environmental impacts from renewable energy sources (Clarke 1995), as well as works on individual sources such as wind (Clarke 1988) and biomass (A. Clarke 2000). It is not proposed here to review again all the individual impacts of each renewable energy source, but to concentrate upon key developments in the approach to assessing impacts from renewable energy.
