ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with people who are often on the fringes of society, which can reproduce an experience of feeling or being professionally marginalized. When working with erotically marginalized clients, clients are working with people who are often on the fringes of society, which can reproduce an experience of feeling or being professionally marginalized. Many of client's colleagues who work with erotically marginalized clients describe themselves as “the only one.” In addition to seeking out support and cultivating networks of fellow sex therapists who are working with erotically marginalized clients, it is also imperative to have an extended network of support and referral sources of interdisciplinary providers. Working within therapist's community is like working in a small town. Clients encourage therapists to consider the choice carefully and clarify for themselves their rationale for working with clients who are in their own community.
