ABSTRACT

Historical factors may also be important when it comes to predicting the outcome of any intervention. In particular if the circumstances which originally lid to the development of the aggression are likely to recur it is necessary to not only gain control of the aggressive behaviour but also to prepare the client for future encounters with the original set of circustances: failure to do so may result in the individual re-learning the aggressive behaviour as was done originally. Where the intervention is to be based on a series of techniques such as assertion training, desensitisation, self-control etc. The information required may, in the first instance consist merely of noting whether the process involved is primarily operant or reactive. Where it is desired to produce a customised intervention however it will be necessary to examine all of the relevant factors and decide which will constitute the prime targets for an intervention programme.
