ABSTRACT
At the beginning of the nineties the Docklands Community Poster Project transformed into the Art of Change and this chapter describes the practice that followed. Work was conducted through discrete projects, many with schools. The first examples, West Meets East and Celebrating the Difference, made ongoing use of photo-mural sites to address issues of identity and diversity in this changing urban environment. Between Family Lines combined the technologies of tape/slide and sound to critique a widespread return to “family values” taking place across cultures. Commissions by the Tate and Art Gallery of Ontario followed in the form of Awakenings, I.D and Momentos, through which young people explored identity in response to works in the gallery collections, particularly utilising advances in digital imaging and the Internet. The Infinity Story then furthered creative use of interactive technologies in schools, an approach progressed in the following decade.
