ABSTRACT

The bible of the European Union, which provides the ultimate authority for the greater part of its decisions and responsibilities, is the Treaty of Rome, which created the European Economic Community (EEC). The other established Euratom, the European Atomic Energy Community. Six years earlier on April 18th 1951 the six countries had signed the Treaty of Paris, setting up the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). By this Treaty, the HIGH CONTRACTING PARTIES establish among themselves a European Economic Community. The Community shall have as its task, by establishing a common market and progressively approximating the economic policies of Member States, to promote throughout the Community a harmonious development of economic activities, a continuous and balanced expansion. Increase in stability, an accelerated raising of the standard of living and closer relations between the States belonging to it. The treaties of Maastricht and Lisbon contained the most significant amendments to the Rome treaty.
