This chapter examines more systematically the claim that modernization has undesirable psychological consequences. The psychological aspect of modernization has not been studied, has not been the subject of extensive research, but it has been demonstrated that modern characteristics can be measured and compared. The analysis of the psychological impact of modernization presented in The Homeless Mind is impressive both in its scope and its relevance for everyday life.
