ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a list of the popular questions asked in the classroom and in the studio. The questions include what is the first microphone one should buy, which recording software to use, how one get started. The answers vary, giving insight into what the pros think, and hopefully will give the confidence that there are many ways to achieve the same end result. The chapter provides a list of the engineers who participated. In addition to being audio engineers, many of the participants are producers, musicians, artists, audio educators, mastering engineers, technicians, and studio owners. Computer recording systems will become more powerful and hopefully improve in sound quality. Recording technology continually becomes more attainable for the average musician. A good engineer – like a good photographer – can artistically frame the shot, set the tone, and make the subject "larger than life". Experience means a lot with music production.
