ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on evaporation and condensation, and applies the ideas to explaining the water cycle. It also examines problems faced by people in developing countries in gaining access to clean water. When water and other materials are cold enough they change from a liquid into a solid. When the solid is heated and becomes warm enough, it can change back to a liquid. The chapter focuses on irreversible changes, with children making plastic from milk and vinegar. Water is the foundation of life. Most of the water on Earth resides in the oceans. About 71% of the Earths surface is covered in water, the vast majority of it being in the oceans. When the Sun shines on the water, some of it evaporates and rises. Like all liquids water is fluid, meaning that the particles must be free to move within the body of the water.
