ABSTRACT

This chapter explains where students look for an Internship and what to say when they call. Bigger companies have constraints such as union prohibitions on non-union people, which at this point students probably are. At a company like this, they are going to find themselves doing a lot of watching as opposed to actual doing. Many smaller companies are not in unions or are not covered by as many unions, so there are fewer areas where interns are kept from doing substantive work. While the name of the company might not bring as much punch to students resume, they actually may come out of the internship with more marketable skills, which when it comes down to it, are what are going to help them most in their career. If there is a company or studio where you would like to do your internship, give them a call. Not every company with open internships advertises.
